After realising that there is not much of an emphasis on OMFS at Oxford, I decided to help found an OMFS-associated society at the University of Oxford. I think Oral and Maxillofacial surgery, as a speciality, is wonderful. The psychiatric and functional effects of positive OMFS outcomes are substantial. The face is part-and-parcel of a person's identity, and to partake in rebuilding the face after cancer, trauma, or whatever it may be, is also like partaking in rebuilding that person's confidence and identity.

Hi! I’m Tasnim, a 5th year medic with a keen interest in surgery. I’m the clinical representative for OMFS, and will be responsible for promoting Maxfax as a specialty amongst medics at the university.

I am a third year Medical Student at Worcester College, Oxford specialising in neuroscience for my intercalated year. I coordinate with the OMFS department at the John Radcliffe Hospital to set up and take part in undergraduate research projects. I was interested in OMFS because it is a great way to get involved in surgical arenas for pre-clinical undergraduates - an opportunity not to be missed!
